Your New Westminster Salmonbellies are pleased to announce they have acquired the rights to Tye Belanger through an inter-provincial transfer with the Brampton Excelsiors.
Hometown: Wallaceburg, ON
Birthday: July 30th, 1990
“As coaches, we are excited to welcome Tye to the Bellies. He is having a very strong NLL season with the Stealth and is showing that he can be a top goalie in our league,” said head coach Steve Goodwin. “Tye has had an outstanding year with the Vancouver Stealth and we look forward to bringing him into the Bellies to compete for a staring job with our club.” President and GM Dan Richardson adds.
Tye is an NLL vet, currently playing for the Vancouver Stealth after a three-year stint with the Colorado Mammoth and two with the New England Black Wolves. He was drafted in 2011 by Colorado as their 2nd round pick and 16th overall. Tye has appeared in a total of 75 games and has stacked up 1,065 minutes in net during his NLL career. Over the course of his career he has posted a 13.16 G.A.A and .741 save percentage.
“Given the rich history and success this franchise is known for, it's going to be a real treat to put that uniform on for the first time,” said Tye. “I'm thrilled to be joining a team with top-level talent that's primed and ready to compete for championships right now. That was the main reason why I decided to sign with New Westminster.”
“As we do at every position - forward, defence, transition and now goaltending, we look to bring in the best players to compete for jobs,” President and GM Dan Richardson explains. “We are very excited to add another young goaltender to our already stellar duo. One of my jobs as GM is to make sure at each position we bring in guys to compete for positions and I like all our acquisitions this season, I think it sends the right message to our players and our fan base and Tye is just one more piece.”
