The New Westminster Salmonbellies knew what was at stake on Tuesday night in Maple Ridge a season series win and playoff positioning, unfortunately for them Frank Scigliano had other plans as he made 42 saves and held the Salmonbellies to their lowest goal today of the season with just 5 and backstopped the Burrards to their biggest win of the season thus far as they take the season series against the Bellies 2 games to 1 and move 4 points clear of them with 4 games left in their season (the Bellies do have a game in hand).
Not a lot of Salmonbellies managed to hit the score sheet on Tuesday night but once again it was Keegan Bal who led the team in scoring with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists), Followed behind by Mitch Jones 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), Austin Shanks 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist), Logan Schuss (1 goal), Lyndon Bunio, Justin Salt and Brandon Goodwin (all 1 assist). The New Westminster special teams didn’t have a great night either as the power play only converted on 1 of 4 chances (25% conversation rate, while also giving up a shorthanded goal) while the penalty kill finished 4 for 6 (66% kill rate while also scoring a shorthanded goal). Alexis Buque got his 13th start of the season and made 37 saves on 47 shots while Neil Tyacke also saw 3:42 of action and didn’t face a shot on net. Mike Messenger as per usual saw the face off duties and went 9 and 16 in the circle.
The Salmonbellies will have no time to dwell on this however as they return home for a rematch with the Coquitlam Adanacs Thursday July 11th game time is 7:30 PM at queens park arena (the Bellies doubled up the Adanacs 12-6 just 4 days ago) and then next Sunday July 14th the Salmonbellies will travel to Nanaimo For a Date with the Timberman that could potentially determine both teams fate come the end of the month as of this printing the Timberman lead the Salmonbellies by 2 points with each having 5 games remaining for that 4th and final WLA playoff spot Game time at Frank Crane Arena is 6:00PM.
