The New Westminster Salmonbellies and Victoria Shamrocks know how to put on a show. These WLA rivals left it all out on the floor in a game that ended in a 12-12 tie in OT. This is the second time this season these two teams have met. With a disappointing 5-4 loss back on June 1st for New West, they came out knowing they had something to prove to this 5-1 team.
The Shamrocks opened the first period scoring, but the Bellies were able to answer back quickly to tie the game at 1-1. The first period ended with the Shamrocks on top 4-3.
It didn’t take long for fists to start flying in the second period. A pair of majors and game misconducts were handed out to Shamrocks Ben McCullough and Bellies Mike Messenger. Followed shortly by another pair of majors to Shamrocks Steve Priolo and Bellies Shayne Bennet, with Priolo receiving a game misconduct. The Bellies teams took advantage of the fire, scoring six goals in the second, doubling the Shamrocks three goals they put up that period.
Things calmed down in the third, which gave the Shamrocks time and room to outscore the Bellies that period, tying the game at 11-11. Overtime comes around, and Shamrocks Josh Fagan scores the first OT goal. Answering back is Bellies Zach Herreweyers, tying the game at 12-12.
The three stars for last night’s game are:
1st – Casey Jackson (Victoria)
2nd – Zach Herreweyers (New West)
3rd – Tyler Hass (Victoria)
