May 21, 2016 - Tonight the New Westminster Salmonbellies met with the Coquitlam Adanacs in their barn at the Coquitlam Sports Centre. They unfortunately fell behind, losing to the Adanacs 7-5, but not without a fight.
Ryan McMichael from the Adanacs opened the scoring for both teams. It didn't take long for the Bellies to answer back with a goal from Tyler Kirkby to tie the game 1-1. Shortly after the Kirkby goal, Adanacs were sent to the bench and the Bellies had their first power play of the game. Just coming off the power play, Sean Lundstrom scores giving the Bellies their first lead. Before the end of the period, two more penalties were served; one to Coquitlam for too many men, and one to New West shortly after. Bellies lead 2-1 going into the second period.
Adanacs answer back strong with Jordan Catton scoring on the power play as Ben Davies was sent to the box after a scruff around the Bellies net. The Bellies find themselves in trouble, and the Adanacs put another one past Eric Penney leading the game 3-2. The one goal separation didn't last long, as Davies is back on the floor and finds the back of the Adanacs net, tying the game at 3. There are two more goals in this second period, both being scored by Adanacs. The Bellies couldn't connect, however they had some incredible chances, but just couldn't beat Adanacs goalie, Dan Lewis. The period ended with Ian Hawksbee serving a 10 minute major that carried over into the third period. The score at the end of the second is 5-3.
The third period was filled with goals from both teams, and also featured some flying fists as goalies were shoved, and tension grew high. It opened with Bellies on the advantage, but once the game was back at full strength, Adancas found themselves on the power play, which resulted in a goal. It's now 6-3 and the Bellies are fighting to get back on top. Dane Sorensen puts one behind Lewis bringing the Bellies up to 6-4. Brian Gillis answers, and scores the final goal for the Adanacs. Just a few moments later, Lundstrom scores the final goal for the Bellies. Things become heated in the final minutes of the game, as Jordan McBride and Sorensen get sent to the bench from a fight, which also sends Davies to the locker room before the rest of his teammates.
Tonights three stars are, (3) Eric Penney, (2) Dan Lewis, (1) Ryan Johnson.
