Salmonbellies 2015 Draft Recap

 

6 months of preparation, reviewing game film, phone calls, interviews , amalgamating Scouting reports, came to fruition last night at the LEC.

The Salmonbellies are very pleased with the players they have acquired via the WLA Graduating Junior class.

#4 overall pick was used to take New Westminster Jr Salmonbellie

Luke Gillespie 6’2” 175 Offensive Lefty who in 16 games last year put up 32 goals 13 assists 45 points with 29 PIMS , our scouts loved his size, athletic ability and toughness. Coach Goodwin has coached Luke in the past and feels he is going to make a great Senior Lacrosse player. Luke is currently on a field lacrosse scholarship at the University of District of Columbia in Washington DC

#6 Justin Goodwin  from the New Westminster Jr Salmonbellies  5’11” Lefty D-Transition, our scouts had him rated as the top D-man in the draft , very smart defender, tenacious on loose balls, and likes to hit. Justin played all of his lacrosse in New Westminster from minor through Junior and is very excited to play for his hometown Bellies. Justin is attending Lake Erie College in Painesville Ohio on a Field Lacrosse Scholarship 

#11 Eric Penney from the New Westminster Jr Salmonbellies  6’1” 215lbs Goaltender, was rated by our scouts as the Top Goaltender of the graduating Juniors by a country mile. Eric will come in and compete for a job with incumbents Alexis Buque and Neil Tyacke . Eric is the currently tending goal for the Vancouver Stealth of the NLL.

#25 Cory Takahara  5’7” 165lbs R- Transition from the Delta Islanders. This sparkplug , played up a few games with the Sr. Bellies in 2014 and brought a ton of energy and enthusiasm, will remind fans of a Tyler Crompton type player, never say die attitude.

#32 Alex MacDougall 5’11” 200lb R- Defender . from Nanaimo Jr Timbermen. 6 games played 1 goal 1 assist and 110 PIM, Alex was drafted for his overall toughness, he is not afraid to drop the gloves and stick up for his teammates , in 3 seasons of Juniors he amassed 254 PIM’s

#39 Mike Donaldson 6’1” 200 lbs Offensive Lefty from the Delta Islanders
