Salmonbellies down Thunder in a 19-14 shootout at QPA
The Salmonbellies went into the game four undefeated on the season at home to face the visiting Langley Thunder. This game saw 33 goals with the Bellies capturing the win to stay undefeated on the year with a 19-14 victory. The game had everything with a combined shot total of 95 and 63 minutes in penalties.
An emotional night as Anthony Malcom, Brandon Goodwin and Justin Goodwin who’s cousin Olivia Malcom was tragically taken from us on Saturday were back in the line-up and played with big hearts for 60 minutes. With minor changes to the line-up, coach McDade kept the goalie rotation up and went back to Tye Belanger for the start in net.
Once the game started the Bellies down 1-0 early bounced back with the Jones brothers netting two back to back goals. After the Thunder tied the game at 2 with 15 min remaining in the first, New West went on a 6 goal run and drove out starter Tyler Richards. Langley answered back with 3 straight to finish the first period with New West up 8-5. Bellies goals; Mitch Jones with 3, Schuss with 2 and Jason Jones, Sean Tyrell and Jordan McBride all with one each.
Malcom started the period with an early goal inside on MacDonald to go up 9-6. New West power play took off with 3 goals on the man up and finished the period up 13-8. Bellies goals; Malcom, Jason Jones, Tyrell, Jordan McBride and Doucet.
Again New West started with a run of four goals and pushed MacDonald out with Langley going back to the started Richards. Up 17-8 and Belanger ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct based on Tye heading down the other end to have some words with the Langley tender. Lang finished with a five goal run but not enough as the game ended 19-14 New West. Bellies goals: Mitch Jones with two, Schuss, Tyrell, Jason Jones and Malcom all with one each.
Leading the way, Mitch Jones with a huge night - 5G, 5A for 10points on the night. Followed by Malcom and Schuss with 8 points each and Jordan McBridge with 7 points.
