After an early 1st round exist in the 2018 WLA Playoffs, the New Westminster Salmonbellies look to rebound as they head in to the 2019 WLA Season with starts in May. With the Mann Cup heading back West, the Salmonbellies also enter their historic 130th season.

Once again Head Coach Rory McDade will be at the helm with his assistant coaches Ian Patterson, Darren McEwan, and Curtis Palidwor. “Things didn’t end up how we wanted (in 2018) so we are excited to get back to work for 2019” says McDade. "With the additions to our club and the players we are bringing back we are looking forward to the challenge of getting back to the Mann Cup,” says McDade.

President and GM Dan Richardson will be back in 2019 and has already made some key changes for the upcoming 2019 season. Prior to the 2019 WLA Junior Draft, Richardson pulled off a trade with the Burnaby Lakers by acquiring transition player Justin Salt. “Justin will add some depth and leadership on our backend” says Richardson. “We’re very excited to have Justin in Red and White”.

With a three-year absence, Salmonbellies are excited to have Keegan Bal back in the line-up who will add some offense power alongside McBride and Malcom. Richardson also went fishing back east and recently signed first overall pick in the 2019 MSL draft, Jeff Henricks. Jeff played 5 years of Junior A with the Orangeville Northmen, plays NCAA Division1 with The Ohio State and also captured silver with Team Canada U19 Field team.

At te WLA Draft back in February the Bellies only had a few picks, partially based on the Salt trade. With their first pick, New West selected Tanner Poole from the Junior A Bellies in the 3rd round, 21st overall. Next the Bellies selected in the 6th Round, 42nd overall Jake Richardson from the Junior A Langley Thunder and the final selection from the Port Coquitlam Saints Junior A Team was Scott Barker in the 7th round 48th overall.

With the 2019 season just around the corner, the Salmonbellies are all excited to step onto the iconic Queens Park Arena green floor and strive to obtain their 25th Mann Cup in the 130th season.
