Bellies Strengthen Bench by Adding Goundrey

by Salmonbellies Lacrosse

The New Westminster Salmonbellies have strengthened their coaching staff with the addition of Kyle Goundrey as offensive coordinator. A veteran of both the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) and National Lacrosse League (NLL), Goundrey brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the team.

His appointment follows the news that Hall of Famer Geordie Dean will not be available to coach for the 2025 season.

“We are optimistic that Geordie will be back in 2026, but we are also excited to add Kyle,” said General Manager Ray Porcellato. “Anyone who ever saw Kyle play will immediately understand why. His commitment level as a player was second to none, and he created opportunities through physical and aggressive play. That’s exactly the type of style that wins in summer lacrosse, so we are thrilled to have him.”

Goundrey is a highly respected figure in lacrosse, both as a player and coach. His senior playing career spanned two decades (1996–2016), split between the Maple Ridge Burrards and Ladner Pioneers. A member of the 1998 President’s Cup-winning Pioneers, he also led the WLA in scoring in 2002 and was a perennial all-star in both leagues.

His NLL career (1997–2010) included a stint with the Vancouver Warriors in 2002 and two Championship Cup victories with the Calgary Roughnecks.

More recently, Goundrey has transitioned to coaching, serving on the Maple Ridge Burrards’ bench and as Head Coach of the Junior A Delta Islanders.

“Wherever Kyle goes, he leads and he wins,” said Head Coach Jason Bishop. “I think he is the perfect fit for our team and for the culture we are building.”

The Salmonbellies open their regular season at 7:00 PM on May 22 at historic Queen’s Park Arena, facing the Nanaimo Timbermen. Single-game tickets go on sale in April, while season tickets are available now at Salmonbellies.com.
