WLA Releases 2025 Schedule

by Salmonbellies Lacrosse

The Western Lacrosse Association has announced the 2025 regular season schedule.  Fans will be thrilled to hear that the regular season schedule will continue to feature 18 games per team, followed by playoffs in August.  This year's WLA champion will host the Mann Cup in September.

President and GM Ray Porcellato said the schedule is a good fit for the 2025 team he envisions.  "Our focus this year will be on commitment and hometown pride.  It's going to be exciting for fans to see the team play five of our first six games at Queens Park.  We will be relying on Bellies fans to be out in numbers to help us set the tone early in the season."

The Bellies kick off the season at home on May 22nd at 7 pm when they host the Nanaimo Timbermen.  As always, New Westminster games will begin at 7:30 except when the visitor is from Vancouver Island.

Unlike recent seasons, there will be no Thursday night bye for the Salmonbellies in 2025.  Instead, they'll play 10 straight Thursdays with a twist; July 10th will be played on the floor of our arch rivals, the Coquitlam Adanacs.  Our final regular season game is a home tilt against the Langley Thunder, July 24th at 7:30.  Perhaps we will see a repeat of the similar 2023 season-closing thriller that determined the western Mann Cup contender.

Indeed, the last week of the season will be a heavy one for New West, with 4 games in just 8 nights.  Given the parity of the WLA in recent years, those games are bound to be important, but Porcellato likes the timing.  "We expect those games to be key battles against some of our fiercest competition, so they will be exciting for fans and intense for our players.  That's just what we need to prepare for the playoffs."
